TRAINING PROGRAM
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Everest (Toronto) Restoration is committed to on-going reinforcement of health & safety training and reviewing the needs of workers. As employer we will:
I ) provide all hazard information on controlled products received from a supplier or produced by us and any additional information of which we are aware concerning the use, storage and handling of the controlled products;
2) develop and implement a training program which includes a complete picture of all aspects and phases of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System as it applies to our industry and our company operations (such training shall take place at least once per year and more frequently as appropriate);
3) consult with workers during the development, implementation and review of the training program;
4) ensure, as far as reasonably practical, that the training sessions result in workers being able to apply the information as needed to protect health and safety (supervisors will keen an eye on material handling and report weaknesses, if any, in the training sessions) and
5) review our program as appropriate (at least once per year) and make any changes which might make things better for every one.
Supervisors and workers must also take responsibility for H & S Training. We expect you to:
1) receive and learn the information in this manual, information taught through the yearly training session, and other information, written and verbal, which may be provided from time to time through-out the year;
2) let us know if information about a controlled product is not adequate to ensure your health & safety and
3) work with us to develop, implement and review our training program.
SITE-SPECIFIC, MATERIAL-SPECIFIC TRAINING
Each job location brings together different work-teams, materials and scopes of work. A continuing training effort is required to respond to site-specific information and procedural needs: different materials will be used on different projects at different times, the workforce may change as the project evolves, the workforce may change from project to project, and the formulations of the products may change.
To address these issues, the crew supervisor on site must review, with the crew, the MSDSs for the product(s) being used by the crew and be sure everyone is familiar with the information. The review should focus on fire hazard information, health hazard information, controls that should be in place, protective equipment that should be used and special handling precautions (if any).
ENFORCEMENT/DISCIPLINE
The Project Manager or Foreperson will take disciplinary action when necessary for non-compliance with the health and safety policy or program. The graduated steps a supervisor will take are:
1. Verbal warning
2. First written warning
3. Second written warning
4. Disciplinary action which may include suspension with, or without pay, or termination, at the discretion of senior management in consultation with the Safety Representative or Joint Health and Safety Committee.
END NOTE
This completes the body of Everest (Toronto) Restoration's Health and Safety Policy and Program Manual. In addition to this manual, the Health and Safety Program shall also include training, accident investigation, record keeping, monitoring, and adjustment of the program as necessary to meet the stated objectives of the program. Additional data sheets, procedural booklets, and safety brochures concerning specific work or equipment issues will be supplied from time-to-time as required to meet ongoing Program needs and add to, or supplement, the information provided in this Manual. |
