(2) The goal of all operations is to achieve and maintain a zero (0) accident rating. Any accidents are to be fully investigated, causes determined and corrective measures taken.

(3) Report all hazardous conditions immediately to the acting supervisor. All supervisors are to report all hazardous conditions to management as soon as practical and reasonable in the circumstances. and take all steps to rectify the situation at once and remove or neutralize the hazard.

WHMIS

(1) Learn the WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) classification system outlined in the following pages of this document.

(2) Use the WHMIS classification and labelling system and MSDSs (Material Satety Data Sheets) at all times.

(3 ) Always use the protective procedures recommended in the MSDSs and commit to memory the emergency procedures and treatments stated in the MSDSs as they pertain to the work at hand.

(4) All supervisors are to ensure that they are in possession of, and have read, all MSDSs respecting work under their current direction. All workers are to be familiar with the contents of all relevant MSDSs on a project - by - project basis.

( 5)Transter of Chemicals: transfer all liquids and solids into the proper container and ensure proper job-site labels are in place. The name and concentration of the chemical must be on the label. You must know and understand all WHMIS symbols and hazards. Clean up all chemical spills immediately using the procedures recommended on the MSDS. Chemical handling must only take place by authorized, competent staff under competent supervision.

HEALTH & SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE / SAFETY COMMITTEE

( I ) A worker must report any hazard or contravention of the Health and Safety Act to the employer or supervisor. If the matter is not resolved, a worker should then refer it to a health and safety representative. The Occupational Health and Safety Division of the Ontario Ministry of Labour has established guidelines for Joint Health and Safety Committees and Representatives in the Workplace. A workplace with more than five but fewer than 20 employees must have a health and safety representative. The representative is selected by employees at the workplace and is committed to improving health and safety conditions in the workplace. Where projects involve fewer than six workers, each worker is expected to report hazards or contraventions to the supervisor.

(2) The H & S Representative and Safety Committee has four principal functions: to identify potential hazards, to evaluate these potential hazards, to recommend corrective action and to follow up implemented recommendations. A job site must be inspected at least once per month for hazards or potential hazards. Should a H & S Inspector from the Ministry of Labour attend the site, it is the responsibility of the H & S Representative to accompany the inspector on all inspections.
